CORNING, NY -- Corning's Gaffer District Festivals and Promotions Team and the steering committee for a festival of art invited local students to participate in the a festival of art 2008 design contest. Elementary aged children in the Corning-Painted Post School District were invited to create art that illustrated their impressions of the annual a festival of art held on historic Market Street.
A 5th grader from William Severn Elementary School was chosen as the winner of this second annual contest. The young lady's brightly colored artwork represents the festivals appeal and excitement with pictures of paintbrushes, pottery, musical notes, food and sunshine. The winner will be presented with a certificate from Corning's Gaffer District and festival merchandise that portrays the winning artwork. The winner's teacher will receive a $250 check to use for art classroom supplies.
The grand prize winning design will be used as part of a regional campaign to attract artists and visitors to the Gaffer District for the festival as well as promote the two day celebration of the arts in our community. The winning piece will be on display at the 17th Annual a festival of art on Saturday, July 26 and Sunday, July 27th.
