Open-wheel series will run prior to the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen on June 7

Watkins Glen, NY (April 09, 2008) – Fans looking to get their open-wheel fix before the Camping World Grand Prix at The Glen will love the most recent addition to the already action packed Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen weekend, June 6-8. Catch the future stars of the IndyCar® Series when the Star Mazda Championship challenges historic Watkins Glen International for the first time ever! The high-energy racing series joins the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series, NASCAR Camping World Series' East Division and the SCCA SPEED World Challenge, and provides a little something for every race fan .

The Star Mazda Championship will hit the track for one race on Saturday morning prior to the Sahlen's Six Hours of The Glen. Similar to the SCCA SPEED World Challenge races, known to be extremely competitive, each race will began with an exciting standing start along the FrontStretch. The Star Mazda Championship continues to establish itself as one of the most successful driver development series in open-wheel racing. Fans will be on the edge of their seats watching these high-tech open-wheel cars that can travel from 0 to 60 mph in 2.8 seconds, battle for supremacy in a race lasting a maximum of 50 minutes. Several current and past open-wheel stars, such as IndyCar Series star Marco Andretti, attribute current success to their start in the development series. Other past alumni include 2008 St. Petersburg IndyCar Series race winner Graham Rahal, former F1 driver Scott Speed and NASCAR newcomer Michael McDowell. Now in its 18th consecutive season, Star Mazda will finally make its first stop at The Soul of American Road Racing as part of a 12-race schedule for 2008 with all races broadcasted on SPEED TV. Tickets for the historic 60th Anniversary Season at Watkins Glen International are on-sale now! This year the season kicks-off with the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series, June 6-7 paired with the NASCAR Camping World Series’ East Division on Sunday, June 8.
